About the scheme
A recognised route
for CORSIA SAF
certification.
ClassNK SCS is an ICAO-approved sustainability certification scheme. Its approved scope covers economic operators for CORSIA Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) under Chapter 2 of the ICAO sustainability criteria.
CORSIA — the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation — allows aircraft operators to reduce their offsetting requirements through the use of eligible fuels, subject to the applicable reporting and verification requirements.
Fuel certification supports evidence for CORSIA fuel claims. It does not itself issue tradable carbon credits.

From enquiry
to certification.
A defined scope, documented evidence and an independent certification decision.
Audit arrangements, applicable fees and any actual LCA verification requirements are established during application and contracting.
Enquiry and scope review
Share your activities, locations, materials and intended certification scope. TRANS reviews the enquiry and provides an application form and quotation.
Application and agreement
Submit your completed application. The scope, responsibilities and commercial terms are confirmed in the certification agreements.
Audit and verification
TRANS plans the assessment and reviews technical documentation, sustainability records and LCA evidence. On-site assessment and any preliminary actual LCA work are arranged as applicable.
Findings and certification
Findings are communicated and addressed before the certification decision. The Certificate of Conformity is issued following the required review and ClassNK confirmation.
Proof of Sustainability
Certified shipments are accompanied by the required Proof of Sustainability (POS). TRANS obtains the records and forwards them to ClassNK in accordance with the scheme process.

Before you apply.
Is this service for SAF or lower carbon aviation fuels?
This service page covers CORSIA SAF within ClassNK SCS’s published ICAO approval. The June 2026 ICAO list identifies ClassNK’s scope as SAF economic operators under Chapter 2. A lower carbon aviation fuel (LCAF) project requires a separate scope and eligibility confirmation.
Does certification generate CORSIA carbon credits?
No. Eligible fuel use can support an aircraft operator’s claim to reduce its CORSIA offsetting requirements. Fuel certification and the issuance of carbon offset credits are different processes.
Will I need an actual LCA?
The applicable approach is reviewed for your proposed scope and pathway. Where actual life cycle emissions values are used, the technical report, calculation and supporting evidence form part of verification.
Are sustainability and LCA certified separately?
In principle, the Certificate of Conformity combines the sustainability and applicable life cycle emissions or reduction information, rather than issuing separate certificates for each part.
What happens after certification?
You must maintain the required records and ensure that shipment information and POS documentation are complete and consistent. Applicable follow-up obligations and scheme fees are set out during engagement.
